This product follows many of the strategies found in Lucy Calkins Writing Programs (Teachers College) but can be used for any and all writing programs.

Narrative Writing Skills Included:

Opinion Writing Skills Included:
– overall structure of writing (I told and drew my feelings)
– leads/beginnings (I told what I like or don’t like)
– transitions (I can say more and use the word ‘because’)
– organization (I told my feelings and said why)
– endings (I have a last part)
– elaboration/details (put my thinking on the page)
– craft (add details in pictures and words)
– spelling (I can read it, wrote a letter for the sounds I hear, use the word wall)
– punctuation (use capital letters to start sentences)

Recommendations for Use:
1) ) I recommend printing all strategy cards on heavy cardstock.
2) After you print out the cards, I recommend laminating them so they last longer.
