Discover the 2 Main Types of Problems Your Parents or Children Have.

Let’s talk a little bit deeper about your ideal customer avatar’s struggles or challenges. Because this is such an important part of puzzle in creating any business as a teacher and making what you are worth.

Knowing what problems you can SOLVE for your families is the secret sauce to creating a sustainable microschool or homeschooling business. Whether that be online or in-person. You can’t just create something that you’re passionate about or something YOU love. Yes, that is part of it. But we also need to determine a PROBLEM that your community or the world needs that you can solve.

Now there are 2 main types of struggles or challenges your future families are facing.

NUMBER #1: Surface Challenges (EXTERNAL)

These problems are readily observable and are the first layer of issues that one might encounter, much like the surface of an object or situation. They’re the concrete challenges or pain points your ideal customer faces in the “real world.”

For example:

  • A business owner can’t find a software tool that meets their specific needs.
  • A parent struggles to find healthy snack options their kids will actually eat.

The thing with surface problems? They’re the ones people talk about. If you ask someone what’s bothering them, they’re likely to mention these first.

These are the types of things where people go to Google or YouTube looking for an answer to a specific problem.

Second Challenge Your Ideal Customer or Family is Facing.

NUMBER #2: Deep Challenges (INTERNAL)

These challenges dive beneath the surface or water: the internal struggles. These are the feelings, beliefs, fears, and desires connected to those external problems. They’re often more emotional, rooted in personal experiences, values, and mindset.

These deep challenges or internal problems are the whys behind the external ones. They’re what keeps your ideal customer up at night, even if they don’t voice them out loud.

For example:

  • The business owner feels overwhelmed and fears they’ll never be able to streamline their processes.
  • That parent feels guilty for not providing nutritious foods and worries about the long-term health effects on their children.

Now it’s time to do some research. Look for language that indicates the kinds of things that are keeping your families or children up at night – their pain points, problems, challenges and frustrations. Dig deeper and look behind what they are saying, as well.
