Description

Create a mock trial activity with FIVE of Thurgood Marshall's famous cases.  This interactive game teaches students about legal principles and the judicial process, and it allows them to engage directly with the kind of work Marshall did.

What's Included:

Guidelines for Conducting the Trial: It is a set of rules and a structure for how the trial should proceed, including the order of events (opening statements, witness testimony, cross-examination, closing arguments), time limits for each section, and instructions for the jury to deliberate and reach a verdict.

Role Cards: Create role cards for each participant in the mock trial. These should include descriptions of their roles (lawyer, judge, jury, defendant, witness, etc.) and any specific information they need to know. For the lawyers, include guidelines on how to present their case and for witnesses, include their testimony.

FIVE Case Briefs of Thurgood Marshall's famous cases: It outlines the facts of the case, the legal issues involved, and the arguments from both sides.

Evidence Packets Directions: This will teach your students or children what an evidence packet includes so they can research and assemble their own evidence packets for each trial: such as witness statements, legal documents, and any physical evidence that can be replicated (photos, letters, etc.). These should be easy to understand and relevant to the case.

Case Brief & Evidence Packet Folder Labels: You can print this out on Avery labels or regular printer paper and stick them on a variety of different materials to hold the case files and evidence packets such as: manila folders, pocket folders, expandable file folders, brief case etc.
