This Students Hopes & Dreams Activity is a fun, crafty goal setting activity at the beginning of the year. It's a fun & engaging way to get students excited about the new school year, co-create the class rules together, and launch reading & writing workshop expectations.

Inviting students to name learning goals (hopes and dreams) right away shows them that school is a safe place, that they’re important members of the classroom, and that they can look forward to an engaging, challenging, and fun year of learning. Establishing this classroom tone is one of the most important things to do at the beginning of the year.
